F.A.Q.

WHO ARE YOU ?
Fred Lefranc, Sound engineer, Mixer and Producer.

WHAT'S YOU "CAREER" ?
I left the general school pretty early to learn guitar making & lutherie,
After getting graduated, i went at the S.A.E Institue (School of Audio Engineering) from Paris and ended Major of the year, i agree it sounds snob but i'm quite proud of it so ...
Then it's meeting people.

ANALOG OR DIGITAL ?

Ahahah, the eternal war ! We could talk about it for hours !
Let say that my vote goes to digital for handy and economical reasons, on the other hand the analog world is full of wonderful things, and generally i go on what the budget and the band is up to.
I'm focusing much more on the result than on the medium.

WHAT IS YOUR ACTUAL TOP5?

Woven Hands - Mozaic
Placebo - Meds
Mintzkov - 360°
Ghinzu - Mirror Mirror
Brigitte Fontaine - Prohibition

WHAT IS YOUR ALLTIME TOP5 ?

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
Placebo - Placebo
16 Horsepower - Folklore
Shannon Wright - Died In The Wool
Alain Bashung - L'Imprudence
Nirvana - Nevermind
Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Metallica - Black Album

How that i put too much ?! i've got plenty to ad !

DO YOU PREFER STUDIO OR LIVE ?

These are too very different things that are very supplementary,
i can't imagine choosing one without the other.

I'M IN A BAND and we'd love to work with you, how do we do ?

The very first thing to do is of course to contact me to talk about it.
I'm opened to every projects, let's have a drink together !

tell me, how much is it to work with you ?
Of course, it depends ! in a reasonable way i'm always arranging.
Once again contact me to talk about it or to ask for a quote.

I'D LIKE TO GET AN IDEA of the albums you worked on, how do i do ?

First thing is to go on the discography page,
Then, if you want more information about anything contact me, i'll answer with pleasure.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC STYLE ARE YOU ONTO ?

Music stays music. As long as there's sincerity's intensity anything can be great.
Beyond that, i'm listening a lot of "Sad Folk" (16 Horsepower, Luther Wright, Woven Hands, ...), Rock (Placebo, Marilyn Manson, Ghinzu, dEUS, Noir Désir, Shannon Wright, ...), Songwriters (Ane Brun, Kristin Hersch, ...), "French music" (Alain Bashung, Brigitte Fontaine, Miossec, ...) and Jazz (Miles Davis, Jacques Thollot, Fred Frith, ...). All these are of course only informative and not restrictive AT ALL !

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST MEMORIES in STUDIO AND LIVE AS A SOUND ENGINEER ?
Studio : When we recorded Alain Klingler's Pianos, we've been in a huge auditorium, and i surprised myself in a total absent moment. The Piano solo and our 3 persons get me in a "sleeping awake" state for some minutes, it was a great moment. I think i remember it was early and i didn't slept long the night before, maybe this can also explain something ...

Live : Rhesus live at la Cigale, Paris.
Before this day i've only been once in this venue, to see Billy Corgan solo, and being in the backstages of this marvelous venue made me thinking about the time and the road already traveled since my first live gig in a Grenoble's pub...
The big stage from the Vieilles Charrues festival (55 000 people) after winning a table tennis game backstage versus Placebo's members, and my first Olympia with Feverish have also been pretty well made emotions !!
